The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) on behalf of Government received financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for the Development of a National Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) and Capacity Assessment for Taxonomy and Indigenous Knowledge The website was launched on 13th December 2012, in Kampala by the Hon. Minister of State for Environment; Hon. Flavia N. Munaaba who was the Chief Guest to launch the website. She mentioned that access to information was very important in biodiversity conservation and management.The need to know what the different stakeholders are doing and one of the ways of doing this is through sharing information using modern communication methods like the internet. Solid waste management is increasingly becoming a major environmental challenge in Uganda especially in the urban and peri-urban areas. The challenge of solid waste management is set to increase as the country undergoes urbanization, coupled with the increasing population. The urban authorities are overwhelmed and do not have adequate facilities and resources to effectively manage this enormous challenge.
